mangaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Goldfinch town ground to address a mega event here in Mangaluru town today.
The Prime Minister reviews the 3D models of the projects undertaken by the NMPA before officially inaugurating them. A massive crowd gathered at the Goldfinch town ground to witness PM Modi’s event.
He was accompanied by Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot, former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal among others.
BJP leaders welcomed PM Modi with a garland made of Mangaluru Mallige (jasmine flowers) and presented the idol of Lord Parashurama.
In a symbolic gesture of extending the Kisan credit card to fishermen, PM Modi handed over a Kisan credit card to a representative of the fishing community. He also handed over the letter of allocation of deep-sea fishing boats under the Matsya Sampada program.
Speaking on the huge sprawl of tourism in the coastal city and western ghats, Prime Minister Modi said that lately cruise tourism has become popular among people. NMPT has also contributed to this sector by welcoming foreign and domestic tourists, thus providing employment opportunities for many people in the region.
With the push of a button, PM Modi has ushered in or laid the groundwork for a multitude of projects undertaken by the NMPA. These include the project worth over Rs 280 crore for the mechanization of Berth No. 14 for handling containers and other cargo undertaken by NMPA, laying the foundation stone for five projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore undertaken by the port.
Narendra Modi also inaugurated two projects undertaken by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) – the BS VI modernization project and the seawater desalination plant – worth Rs 1,830 crore and Rs 680 crore respectively .
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here from Mangaluru airport on Friday. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot were among those who received the Prime Minister in the coastal city.
The PM traveled to the New Mangaluru Port Authority (NMPA) premises in Panambur by helicopter.
