Jakarta (ANTARA) – Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Tuesday that eight vessels at Muara Angke Port in Jakarta were found unfit for operation during a ground check.

“Out of 31 vessels, there are 23 vessels in Muara Angke Port which are assessed as having met safety requirements and can be operated,” he said.

Therefore, he appealed to shipowners to fulfill the operational conditions and obtain navigation orders (SPB).

The minister stressed that ships should not be overloaded, the speed of ships should follow prescribed regulations, and the ship’s crew should always pay attention to weather conditions.

He also commended the performance of port services, including the implementation of health protocols, the use of the PeduliLindungi application and the provision of vaccines to unvaccinated passengers.

“I request port officers to serve customers politely and friendly, but strictly as we need to ensure their safety (from COVID-19 as well as accidents). A safe and healthy return journey must be achieved,” he said. he points out.

On the same occasion, the Head of Muara Angke Class IV Port Authority and Captaincy (KSOP), Dimyati, said that during the outflow period of Eid Al-Fitr in 2022, the number of passengers had increased by 300% compared to normal days.

On D-1 of Eid Al-Fitr, the number of passengers was nearly two thousand.

“At the height of the exodus period, the number can reach three thousand to four thousand passengers. Therefore, to anticipate the influx, we have prepared reserve ships,” Dimyati said.

To serve passengers during Eid this year, KSOP has prepared 23 ships. Of this number, 18 vessels are operational, while the others are kept in reserve to respond to any surge.

Most of the piers in Muara Angke Port serve the Seribu Islands District in Jakarta. Therefore, the port is always crowded during the holiday season as many people wish to travel to the tourist destination.

Currently, the passenger docks have been revitalized and expanded with better services.
