Gujarat Bandh appeal by Congress receives mixed response, party workers detained

Ahmedabad, September 10: The Gujarat Congress on Saturday called for a gang in the state to protest against inflation, unemployment, contract employment in government jobs and other issues which received a mixed response from the people.

In some areas of the state, several traders have joined the bandh voluntarily while in many places congressional leaders and workers have been seen calling on traders and college management to cease their activities and to support the call of the bandh.

Since Friday night, police personnel have been vigilant and place congressional leaders under house arrest or detain them to thwart the call of the bandh, as claimed by congressional workers. Gujarat Congress gave phone call from 8am to 12pm

Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor led party workers in Naroda area of ​​Ahmedabad calling on traders to join the bandh appeal. It was only after that Thakor assured the police that if something untoward happened, he would take responsibility for it.

In all cities and towns, NSUI students visited colleges and called on college management and students to join the bandh appeal.

Police detained hundreds of NSUI workers across the state, but in many places the NSUI was successful in shutting down colleges.
