The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Rivers State Chapter, Amb Desmond Akawor assured the people of the Andoni Local Government Area that the Ogoni-AndoniUnity road project remains a priority project of the administration headed by Governor NyesomWike.
Akawor, who is also the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said this while addressing the residents of Andoni during the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection sensitization program organized by the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI) at Asarama Public School. , in the local government area of Andoni, last Monday.
He said that although the road is one of the costliest projects, the current administration is determined to complete it before handing it over in 2023.
While announcing that the contractor would soon be moving to the site, the IPAC President appealed for the cooperation of local residents so that the project could be completed as planned.
“The Ogoni-Andoni Unity Road is one of the costliest projects in Rivers State. The Governor has pledged that the road will be completed. This is the wish of the governor of Rivers State. After construction, Andoni will no longer be a river community, Andoni will become a mountain”.
Addressing the people, Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate Sir Siminialayi Fubara said he was happy to be in Andoni and to be received by such a large crowd even when he was told said that the GDI did not exist in the region.
The PDP flag-bearer said the enthusiasm shown by the people of Andoni made it very easy to educate them about PVC collection.
He advised people to make sure they get their PVCs back and protect them as well.
Fubara, who said he is a native of Andoni, urged them to continue working together to achieve a stronger GDI.
“I am happy with the level of awareness in our local government area. I am overwhelmed by what I see because it made my job easier. We’re done with registration, what’s going on now is PVC collection. Keep those PVCs safe. Ignore any SMS that asks you to come with your PVC for empowerment,” he advised people.
Fubara instructed Andoni’s electorate to close ranks in order to build a stronger GDI in the LGA.
The standard bearer argued that although the GDI is fully on the pitch in the LGA, as an electorate it can be stronger if it remains united.
Fubara also warned the people to stay strong even in the face of storms that may come with the election season as the battles ahead have already been won.
He advised eligible voters to ensure they use their PVCs wisely in the next election in 2023, ensuring their votes would count this time around.
He commended the region’s leaders, women and youth, and GDI supporters for turning out in droves for the program.
In his address, GDI General Chairman Hon. Bright Amaewhule said the large crowd that turned out for the rally vindicated his earlier assertion that the group was fully on the ground in Andoni.
He encouraged those who had not yet collected their PVCs to do so as soon as possible, now that the window is still open.
He added that with the level of awareness among the people, the election campaign messages of the PDP candidates would be easy to convey to eligible voters in the region, especially given the leaps and bounds that the state government had. made to deliver strong democratic dividends. to the people.
Amaewhule charges people to protect their PVCs and ensure that they use them wisely to elect the right candidates for various positions in the 2023 elections.
Also speaking, the Member representing Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency, HonAbiante Awaji-Inombek said the 2023 elections will be a referendum on Nigeria’s progress towards progress, unity, development and the peace.
He pointed out that the era of “top-down” politics is over and it has become imperative to use PVCs to secure the lives of citizens and posterity as well as to SIMplify tomorrow.
Earlier, Andoni Local Government Area Chairman, Barrister Erastus Awortu said the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Andoni was not resting because daily people were busy recuperating. their PVCs with the electoral arbiter.
He also said that in the past, Andoni was enslaved by the forces of darkness and underdevelopment, but has now been freed by the Governor of Rivers State, Chief NyesomWike.
The president maintained that with the PVCs collected, they will execute sanctions against those who defrauded Andoni of contracts, scholarships and other basic necessities.
The Andoni rally featured spinning dances by the region’s 11 neighborhoods and speeches of solidarity from stakeholders.
