Art Walk inspiration – Times-Herald
Among my almost six years of experience at Vallejo Art Walk, this recent evening stands out for me in more than one way:
It was the Cycle-7 voting campaign by PB staff members, who were all near the booth promoting Vallejoans to go online and vote for Cycle-7 PB. Excited, they asked me to help them. I said, “I have done due diligence for seven years, but I’ll be happy to take a sign for my house. Inspired, I asked them to tie this sign around me with a rubber band!
As I awkwardly strolled around with this sign on me, handing out sample ballots, this 4-year-old girl near her mother’s booth began to follow me in wonder, pencil and paper in hand. She did a drawing in less than a minute, and when I stopped she gave me this sheet. I said, “Thank you, darling. Take me to your mother or your father. Soon I told her mom about PB and what I was doing and how her little girl made my night out and all my PB activism with her spontaneous, genuine, God-sent art act!
So my goal is to let you know how a process like PB and an amazing Vallejo event like the Art Walk could inspire children / youth in the arts and music community. this sweet girl gave an unexpected (random) demonstration at an event in Vallejo and helped me reaffirm my faith in PB. She helped me and others who looked at her with smiles that night to lift my spirits and improve the quality of life in Vallejo!
Thank you Marti Brown, Robert McConnell, Stephanie Gomes and Bob Sampayan for voting to bring PB to Vallejo City in 2012. Would you like to share this with our Vallejo City Council? Thank you.
